Frequently Asked Questions

The process of therapy involves developing a therapeutic relationship between the therapist and client, which allows the individual to talk openly and confidentially about their experiences and feelings. Psychotherapists and counselling interns are trained professionals, who use various skills to help the client understand problematic behaviours, thoughts and feelings. The process of change involves an active effort on your part, and although it may involve facing uncomfortable experiences and feelings, it can lead to better relationships, solutions to specific problems, and a sense of wellbeing.

In the beginning, it is recommended to come every week to give yourself a chance to work on your goals. Therapists work with clients to help identify when it’s time to move to less frequent appointments.

It is difficult to know how many therapy sessions you will need as each case is unique depending on what is being worked on. Psychotherapy can go on for years, depending on how much you want to learn and explore.

Individual therapy sessions range from $125 to $185 and Couples therapy and Family therapy sessions can range $175-$225. If you are under financial hardship and are committed to doing the work, our psychotherapy interns offer a sliding scale (lower fees). Please may differ by service provider. Please see our therapists’ bios for their rates.

Healing Roots Therapy, require at least 48 hours notice for appointment cancellations. Sessions cancelled less than 48 business hours in advance, and no shows, are subject to the full fee being charged. To notify us of a cancellation, please phone our office at 905.755.0008 or email us at: admin@healingrootstherapy.ca Please note that we do not accept or receive text messages.

In your initial phone consultation, we’ll cover your reasons for pursuing therapy and provide an opportunity to learn more about the therapist’s experience and approach to treatment. This call offers you the chance to pose questions and outline your therapy goals, making sure you feel at ease with the process. It’s also a time for the therapist to assess the best ways to assist you on your journey toward better mental health. This discussion lays the groundwork for a productive and supportive therapeutic relationship.

If you are feeling confused or just unsure as to whether or not these services are right for you, don’t hesitate to contact us for a free phone consultation.
