What Makes This Therapy Group Different
Our online group therapy for anxiety & trauma is a small, therapist-led group built around two things that often get separated: understanding why anxiety happens or trauma resurfaces, and practicing what truly helps when you’re in the thick of it.
Over 10 sessions, our therapists walk the group through the science of anxiety and the nervous system, the connection between trauma and the way your body responds today, and a growing set of grounding and regulation skills. Each session pairs a short teaching piece with real-time to share, reflect, and work through whatever you’ve brought with you that day, with a therapist gently holding the space throughout.
Because the group stays small and meets consistently, you get something that’s hard to find on your own: the feeling of being understood by people who know what this is like from the inside. That sense of “it’s not just me” is often where the relief starts.
In this group, you will:
- Learn how anxiety works in the brain and body, so it feels less mysterious and less frightening
- Explore the link between trauma, attachment, and the anxiety you feel now
- Recognize your own triggers and learn to meet them with curiosity instead of panic
- Practice grounding and regulation techniques you can carry into daily life
- Build a baseline set of skills for understanding and managing your response
- Share and be heard in a space that's confidential and free of judgement

Is This Therapy Group For Me?
This group may be a good fit if you:
- Live with anxiety that affects your daily life, your sleep, your relationships, or your sense of ease
- Notice that your anxiety connects to past experiences or trauma, even if you're not sure how
- Want to understand what's happening in your brain and body when anxiety shows up
- Are looking for practical regulation skills, not just a place to vent
- Feel isolated in what you're going through and want to heal alongside others who understand
- Can commit to attending the full 10 sessions, since the group builds on itself week to week
This group may not be the right fit if you’re currently in crisis or need urgent, one-on-one support. If that’s where you are, individual therapy is a better starting point, and we’re glad to help you find it. You’re also welcome to reach out and talk it through with us first.

What You'll Explore, Session By Session
Each session opens with a grounding exercise and a short teaching piece, followed by time to check in, share, and work through what’s present for the group, all guided by the therapist.
Session 1: Anxiety in the Brain
We start with the basics: what anxiety is, what it’s doing, and why your brain and body respond the way they do. You’ll begin noticing where you feel anxiety, what thoughts tend to set it off, and how to rate and track it.
Session 2: Mindfulness
An introduction to mindfulness as a tool, including a guided RAIN meditation and a look at how paying attention differently can change your relationship with anxious thoughts.
Session 3: Curiosity: Why
Curiosity matters, and how meeting your anxiety with interest rather than fear opens up more room to respond.
Session 4: The Body
A closer look at the nervous system and anxiety, including how your body holds and signals stress, paired with a body-based grounding practice.
Session 5: Regulation vs. Control
The difference between regulating your nervous system and trying to control it is explored through grounding exercises and discussion.
Session 6: Trauma and Attachment
How trauma shapes attachment and the pull between survival and connection, with a mindful focus exercise to ground the work.
Session 7: Exploring Trauma and Memory
An introduction to implicit and explicit memory and the way trauma can split them, supported by a safe-space imagery exercise.
Session 8: Trauma and Memory, Continued
We stay with memory and the body, practicing somatic noticing and curiosity toward the experiences that surface.
Session 9: Recognizing Triggers
Normalizing both the trigger and your response, and using curiosity to meet them with more choice.
Session 10: Review and Closing
We revisit a favourite grounding practice, name key takeaways and lingering questions, and talk about where you’d like to go from here.
How Our Online Group Therapy Program Works
Each two-hour session follows a consistent rhythm so you always know what to expect:
Grounding exercise to settle the group and arrive in the space
Psychoeducation to teach the theme of the session
Group check-in to see who would like time to speak or share
Unfinished business for observations, feedback, or anything administrative
The work itself, where members share and work individually with the therapist in the company of the group, with elective group feedback
Checking out, where each member closes the session and rates where their anxiety sits in the moment
A few group agreements keep the space safe:
- Everything discussed stays within the session
- When one person is speaking, we all practice attentive listening, so cameras stay on for the session, though you're welcome to mute your microphone to cut background noise
- This is a non-judgemental space
- A minimum commitment of 10 sessions is required for full participation

Questions about online group therapy for anxiety and trauma
This group is for individuals across Ontario who live with anxiety, including anxiety connected to past trauma, and who want to understand their experience and build regulation skills in a supportive setting. It’s not designed for acute crisis support, so if you need urgent or one-on-one care, individual therapy is a better fit, and we can help you find it.
No. You don’t need any diagnosis to take part. The group is open to anyone navigating anxiety who wants to understand it better and learn skills to manage it.
Each two-hour session begins with a grounding exercise and a short teaching piece on the theme, followed by time to check in, share, and do individual work within the group, all moderated by the therapist. Sessions close with each member checking out and rating their anxiety in the moment.
Group therapy offers something individual sessions can’t: the chance to be understood by others who share similar experiences. Hearing your own struggles reflected back and offering understanding to others is often where the sense of isolation begins to lift. The structure also gives you both education and practice, with a therapist guiding you throughout.
Attentive listening is part of what makes the group feel safe and connected. Keeping cameras on helps everyone stay present with whoever is speaking. You’re welcome to mute your microphone when you’re not talking to limit background noise.
We provide receipts for insurance reimbursement. Coverage depends on your provider and the therapist’s designation, for example, RP, RP (Qualifying), MSW, or RSW. We recommend checking with your insurer for the specifics of what’s included.
Both can help, and they’re not either-or. Group therapy offers something individual sessions can’t: time with people who understand anxiety from the inside, alongside a therapist guiding the work. Many people do both, or start with one and add the other later. If you’re not sure which fits where you are right now, reach out, and we’ll talk it through with you.
No. You’re always welcome to share, but you’re never required to. Plenty of people start by listening and open up at their own pace as the group feels safer. Both speaking and quietly taking it in are real parts of the work, and the therapist makes sure there’s room for both.
It can be, though it’s understandable if the idea feels intimidating at first. For many people, a small, consistent, judgment-free group becomes a gentle place to be around others without the pressure of everyday social settings. You set your own pace, and your facilitator is there to help you feel supported the whole way through.
Anxiety tends to convince you that you’re the only one struggling, which deepens the isolation. Hearing someone name a feeling you’ve never been able to put into words, or watching another member use a skill that works, chips away at that sense of being alone. You learn from each other’s experiences, practice new coping strategies, and build connection, all of which tend to ease anxiety over time.
