You just want your child to feel happy

As a parent, you may struggle to understand your child’s behaviour, their needs and in many situations – how to help them make sense of their world. You may feel like you’re ‘failing’ as a parent because you aren’t sure how to help them cope with their emotions, their outbursts or even their lack of engagement is what should be considered ‘normal’ childhood activities. This can be confusing and overwhelming for both you and your child.

We provide guidance, support, and a safe space for your child to be open and express themselves freely.

If you notice any of the following signs in your child, it may be helpful to seek professional support

  • Increasingly frequent negative outbursts and irritability
  • Significant changes in their sleeping or eating habits
  • Withdrawing from friends, family or activities they used to enjoy
  • Decreasing self confidence and self image
  • Excessive worry or anxiety
  • Struggles with schoolwork or wanting to go to school
  • Drastic changes in their mood, behavior or personality

PLAY THERAPY IN MISSISSAUGA

What you and your child can expect in Play therapy

Every child is different, so we use a variety of techniques and tools to meet your child’s unique needs. Some of the modalities we may use are:

For our individual sessions, we create a safe and comfortable environment for your child to engage in therapeutic play to explore and express their thoughts, emotions, and behaviours. Because children often have difficulty expressing their emotions verbally, activities and games can help the thoughts that are running through their heads slow down and start to make sense. Playing also shifts your child’s focus from the pressure of talking to an adult to what they are doing, and sharing what’s on their mind often follows.

We educate and coach parents on the techniques and insights gained through play therapy, allowing them to better support their child at home.
We use art supplies, toys, sand trays, and other expressive mediums to help children articulate their inner world. This allows them to express their thoughts, emotions and behaviours.
We provide a safe group setting where children can learn to interact more healthily with peers and practice new skills.
We use child-friendly assessment tools to track emotional and behavioural changes over time, helping tailor the therapy to individual needs.

In Play Therapy, we support your child through:

  • Body image issues
  • Traumatic experiences
  • A recent move
  • Grief
  • Sleep issues
  • ADHD/autism
  • Eating disorders
  • Guilt or shame
  • Divorce or separation
  • Sadness/depression
  • Tension with friends
  • Developmental regression
  • Distress in the home
  • Anger

…and whatever else may be troubling them
